From Because ANZ to beyond the obvious. There’s still a lot left to write, but here’s the Curious Nation story so far.

The story.

Almost 15 years ago, Meredith Cranmer and Sharon Richey (founder of Because UK’s parent company) ignited a spark with ‘Because ANZ’ — an agile, independent brand activation agency spanning Australia and New Zealand. 

Gareth Brock joined soon after at a critical juncture — forming a partnership that sees them not just as business partners, but trusted confidantes. That partnership fueled significant growth, with a number of dynamic brand activations for clients such as Sydney Water, Woolworths, Big W and Asahi.

But we knew we needed to evolve, and chart a new course.

Despite its success, ‘Because ANZ’ didn’t fully capture who we were, or who we wanted to be. Our relentless curiosity, openness to change and belief in asking questions to drive results weren’t fully reflected, and we wanted that to change. 

That’s why we built a nation of the curious, for the curious.

To us, this new names captures our spirit of relentless curiosity, a behaviour that’s fueled our creativity and drive from the very beginning. But it’s more than just a name change — it’s a crystallisation of who we are at our core. We believe the future belongs to the curious — those unafraid to ask questions, challenge the status quo, and in this continually changing world of ours; to learn and to grow.

Our approach is grounded in data, experience, and proven expertise, driven by curiosity, and built to drive growth.

As curious experts, the team is united by a passion for exploration and curious thinking.

We aim to ignite brand growth and forge deeper connections with consumers across digital, retail and also in the real world.
